We live in an age where there is so much emphasis on knowledge. Intellectual heavy-weights strut their stuff without batting an eye. Why shouldn’t they? There is great demand for what they know. There is a craze for doctorate degrees and professional qualifications. However, when the chips are down, what separates the boys from the men is wisdom. The bible says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (Prov 4:7)

You cannot live without wisdom. There will be days when you have tried all you know without results. There will be days when you have problems without solutions, and questions without answers. As humans, we are often confounded by circumstances beyond our control. What do you when you don’t know what to do? What happens when your money does not count, your connections cannot help and your impressive family lineage is out of the question? When even your closest friends are powerless and your most revered mentor is handicapped? At such times, what we need is wisdom.

Wisdom is what stands a man out of the crowd of experts. The difference between a good teacher and a great teacher is wisdom. The divide between revered professionals is wisdom. Anybody can acquire a degree but wisdom is rare. The bible says, “a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.” Eccl 8:1b

It was Wisdom that took Joseph from prison and made him a Prime Minister in the very land in which he was a slave (Gen 41: 14- 44). It was wisdom that made the difference between Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and the magicians of Babylon (Dan 1: 19, 20). It was wisdom that stood David out among the other soldiers in Israel (1 Sam 18: 14) Wisdom established the kingdom in the hands of Solomon, a young, inexperienced King.

No matter how ill-equipped for life you may think you are, there is wisdom available for you. The apostle James puts it this way, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” James 1:5 God does not want to you to roam through life without results. When things get tough and you do not know what to do. There’s an endless resource of wisdom available for you. Just ask your heavenly Father. He will give it immediately. Wisdom exalts. Wisdom increases. Wisdom is the key. Don’t live without it.
